Proin venenatis ac sem quis venenatis. ===== Appearance ===== ---- On the taller side of average and with a lanky build, Livio tends to give the impression of just being an average, good-natured guy. His face is open and expressive, nearly always smiling, with a wide mouth and full, distinctive brows. He's well-muscled from the soccer and tennis he regularly plays, but not overly bulky, and tends to favor comfortable clothes; he doesn't have much of an eye for fashion. While he tends to carry himself with a casual, laid-back air, his eyes often give him away. He's generally more aware of everything going on around him than he lets on. His bright gaze, latching onto anything that really interests him, is the real cue as to how much attention he's paying in any given situation. ===== Personality ===== ---- Livio is outgoing, friendly, and very, very curious. He's persistent. He wants to know how anything and everything works and he wants to use that knowledge to figure out how to make those things work better. He's a problem-solver. While just about anything can catch his interest, more technical or unusual problems are his favorite and tend to hold his attention the best. Once he latches onto something, he tends to chip away at it little by little, from different angles, relentlessly wearing the issue down until he's solved it. He's more determined than impatient; he won't leave things alone, but he rarely gives the impression of being in a hurry. Livio is optimistic to a fault. He loves technology and genuinely views it – and the quickly expanding but novel internet – as the solution-in-progress to human happiness. He wants to be in the room as that sea change happens, because he is unshakably confident in his technical skills and really wants to contribute his abilities to the great endeavor that is human progress. Despite taking this long view on how he wants to focus his life, Livio isn't much of a long-term planner. He's better at tactics than strategy; he likes to tackle problems one at a time, rather than calculating the best course for an overall campaign. Livio has fully embraced the "break things fast" software development motto and tends to apply it to all areas of his life. He can only fix problems if he knows they're there and is unafraid of just wading in and digging around in order to figure things out, socially as well as professionally. Donec in condimentum elit. ===== History ===== ---- Livio's father is a first-generation Chinese immigrant; his mother is an Italian-American woman with a huge extended family. They both greatly value family and the importance of cultural traditions, common ground that allowed them to connect deeply with each other despite the many ways in which they were also very, very different. Livio's father worked as a mechanical engineer, serving as the primary breadwinner for his small family and devoting a great deal of his time and energy to work. Livio's mother wore many hats in his childhood, dividing her time between motherhood, household management, volunteer work, community involvement, and a social calendar constantly packed with the events of family and friends. Socially, Livio takes after her the most, embodying a similar level of extroversion and community focus. But his technical skills are all dad; Livio has always admired his father's intelligence and work ethic and it was important to him to follow his father's footsteps into a STEM career, even if his own work life has taken off along a different technical trajectory. Livio did well in school but not amazingly, being the sort of person who excelled in areas of interest but put in only a cursory effort with subjects where he was less engaged. He played varsity tennis in high school and competitively during his college years, while also playing soccer through a local rec league rather than the school. Livio built out a wide social network by reflex more so than design, connecting with people in all different circles and having an uncanny ability to just naturally gravitate toward people with big ideas, goals, and influence. It was how he made a lot of connections in college and how he ended up working for his first start-up, which also led naturally to his employment with his current company, which he's really excited about. Overall, Livio is at a point in his life and career where he's just setting out. He has ideas, vision, and a desire to do good in the world, all of it built upon an unshakable foundation of family support. His parents always encouraged and believed in him, in their own ways, and he's very close with them – he attended a state school for college and never moved away far.
